Haroian Receives 2016 National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—On Nov. 16, Ani Haroian became one of five recipients of the 2016 National Association of Secretaries of State Medallion Awards. The award ceremony, which took place in the Governors’ State Room at the Rhode Island State House, honors Rhode Islanders who have exhibited remarkable civic leadership and advocacy.

Those present at the event included the host, Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea, Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello, Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed, various elected officials, reporter, and members of the audience. About 20 members of the Armenian community of Rhode Island, including Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Providence Gomideh members and members of the clergy from Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Church, were also present

Haroian said she was humbled by being chosen for this award and thanked those present for enabling her to be able to accomplish so much, recognizing those Armenians in attendance, who work by her side tirelessly to get the jobs done.

Haroian is a recent recipient of the “Mkhitar Gosh” Medal for her efforts to strengthen relations between Armenia and the diaspora and the Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region (ANCA-WR) Vahan Cardashian Award.

She has been a member of the ARF for over four decades and remains a leader and a vital part of the Providence Gomidehoutioun, currently serving as the Educational Chair and the Chair of the Armenian National Committee of RI.
