ArtNova Choir holds inaugural concert in Boston led by Maestro Artur Veranian
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The ArtNova Choir of Boston presented its inaugural concert April 12, 2026, at Holy Trinity Armenian Church, marking a new milestone for the ensemble under the direction of Maestro Artur Veranian.
Veranian is an international conductor, choral director and music educator whose career spans decades of artistic leadership. A Doctor of Music, he has founded and led numerous ensembles since the 1970s, including the Yerevan Women’s Chamber Choir, which has earned recognition and awards throughout Europe, the former Soviet Union and Armenia.
In the Boston area, Veranian continues to shape generations of singers through his disciplined approach to vocal technique and choral artistry. As artistic director of the ArtNova Choir of Boston and the Nanor Junior Performing Choir, both programs of Hamazkayin Boston—a nonprofit cultural organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Armenian heritage through education, music and the arts—he remains committed to cultivating musical excellence across all ages and levels.
ArtNova’s performance spanned sacred and folkloric traditions of Komitas to the classical brilliance of Mozart and beyond, reflecting both a deep respect for Armenian musical heritage and a forward-looking artistic vision.
Guided by Maestro Veranian’s leadership and enriched by the accompaniment of organist Nune Hakobyan, the 25-voice ensemble—featuring soloists Tatevik Kocharyan and Nicole Atesian Simmons—delivered a performance marked by cohesion, sensitivity and expressive depth.
Reflecting on the program, Veranian emphasized an approach rooted in exploring the full spectrum of choral expression. Each work was selected for both its artistic significance and its capacity to communicate narrative, emotion and cultural identity. The rehearsal process focused on uncovering the inner architecture of each composition while maintaining precision, nuance and musical integrity.
“This concert,” he noted, “creates a space beyond everyday life, where sound, unity and shared experience become the central language.”
The ArtNova Choir extends its heartfelt appreciation to all who attended and supported this inaugural concert. Their presence made this milestone an unforgettable beginning to an evolving musical journey.
