Rhode Island team creates Armenian-inspired Solitaire game, Hoki

Hoki: Fortune Telling Legacy Solitaire

CRANSTON, R.I. – Mek Mek Games is happy to announce the Kickstarter launch of its first game, Hoki: Fortune Telling Legacy Solitaire. Rhode Island-based creators Armine Tahmassian and David Davignon say their Armenian-inspired Solitaire game will be live on Kickstarter on January 24, 2023 at 8 a.m. EST.

A traditional solitaire game with a unique spin, Hoki follows a story and evolves into a fortune telling pastime. Each game takes about five minutes, but it includes a challenge system that requires multiple attempts. It then rewards the player with a fortune telling book that corresponds to 72 different endings. It is simple enough to play over conversation and enjoy in groups.

Hoki is largely Armenian in its story, imagery and theme. Its fortune telling aspect is inspired by the reading of coffee grounds. The cards are hand drawn, high quality and easy to handle.

Tahmassian and Davignon have been working on this project during their free time since 2018. They have shared the experience with many others and have received great feedback.

After playing the game at the Sts. Vartanantz Church Armenian Food Festival, Raffi Rachdouni, a music teacher at Mourad Armenian School, remarked, “Hoki is my new favorite version of Solitaire with a unique twist. Play once, and you’ll be hooked!”

“Hoki is an incredibly cool experience that combines gaming and storytelling in unique ways,” notes Michael Wright from Unfiltered Gamer Board Game Reviews.

The campaign will be live on Kickstarter for a limited time. Hoki will be produced and backers will be charged only if the Kickstarter campaign succeeds.
