WATERTOWN, Mass.—The Armenian Relief Society (ARS) International office published a statement on May 11, congratulating the Armenian people’s peaceful and non-violent mass movement and Armenia’s National Assembly’s election of Nikol Pahsinyan as the country’s prime minister.
Below is the statement in its entirety.
The Armenian Relief Society congratulates the Armenian people’s peaceful and non-violent mass movement towards a more just and democratic country; duly noted, and cognizant of people’s wishes, the National Assembly elected a Prime Minister.
From the long, arduous liberation struggle, started by the desperate remnants of an oppressed nation, 100 years ago—on a bright May day of resurrection—rose the very first sovereign Republic of liberated Armenia, whose first centennial, Armenians throughout the world honor and celebrate this year.
A century later, under the bright, springtime skies of sovereign Armenia, in a victorious popular “Velvet Revolution” striving for the establishment of a just and truly representative regime, the people of Armenia, in peaceful unison, raised its chosen leader, Nikol Pashinyan to the post of Prime Minister. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.
The Armenian Relief Society—born over a century ago of the same historic liberation struggle—faithful to its motto “With the People, For the People”, as an ever-true guiding light throughout its almost eleven decades of devoted service to our nation, congratulates the newly elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, wishing him success in all endeavors needed at the helm of a daunting journey towards a secure, peaceful and prosperous future for our Fatherland and all Armenians, everywhere.
As always, The Armenian Relief Society, with its global structures and devoted membership, remains committed to the progress and welfare of our renascent homeland and its government, and, true to its motto, always with, and for our people, everywhere.
