ANC Romania Discusses ECHR Verdict with Swiss Ambassador

On Jan. 30, the ambassador of Switzerland, Jean Hubert Lebet, met with representatives from the Armenian community in Romania at the Armenian Prelacy to discuss Switzerland’s ability to appeal the Dec. 17, 2013 verdict by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on the Dogu Perincek vs. Switzerland case.

Perincek had been condemned by the Swiss federal court for denying the Armenian Genocide and claiming that it “is an international lie.”

The meeting was held at the Armenian Prelacy, at the behest of the Armenian National Committee (ANC) of Romania and Bishop Datev Hagopian, Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Romania. In attendance were Paul Hagopian of the ANC Romania, Varoujan Voskanian, president of the Armenian Union of Romania, Varoujan Pamboukjian, member of the National Assembly of Romania, and Rev. Fr. Ezras Bogdan and Rev. Fr. Hetoum Tarverdian, the spiritual pastors of Bucharest and Pitesht, respectively.
