Artist Hope Ricciardi to Exhibit Work at ALMA

WATERTOWN, Mass.—”My ancestry and roots in Armenian history are the catalyst for my current work,” says artist Hope Ricciardi. “To know what we are, we must know where we come from. The past is often muddled, memory fails us, often familial histories are selective and leave out the painful moments.”

‘History Ignored’ by Hope Ricciardi

Ricciardi will exhibit her work at the Armenian Library and Museum of America (ALMA) on Sun., Feb. 19. Mostly oil on canvas and panels based on photographic transfer, her art focuses on personal imagery—the people, places, and historic images that hold meaning to her.

In 2011, her exhibition “History Ignored” exploring Armenian history was presented at the Galatea Fine Art Gallery in Boston. Ricciardi currently maintains a studio in Boston and is preparing a major exhibit for 2015, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Her work serves to inform and honor the history and numerous contributions of Armenian culture.

Ricciardi’s exhibit will run through April 29, 2012. An opening reception will take place on Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at ALMA’s Contemporary Art Gallery, 65 Main St. in Watertown. Admission is free and open to the public.
