Canonical Installation of New Bishop of Catholic Eparchy Held in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (A.W.)—On Oct. 2, the solemn installation of the Most Reverend Mikael Mouradian as the Eparch of the Armenian Catholic Eparchy in the U.S. and Canada was held in the St. James Roman Catholic Cathedral of Brooklyn.

Representatives of the ARF and Armenian Weekly with the Most Reverend Manuel Batakian and the the Most Reverend Mikael Mouradian.

The canonical installation was followed by a dinner banquet at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadow Park, N.Y., and was attended by religious leaders and a cross section of the Armenian American community.

The banquet program featured comments by the president of Eastern Catholic Associates, the Most Reverend John M. Kudrick; delegate of the Armenian Catholic Patriarch, the Most Reverend Hovannes Teyrouzian; Vicar General of the Eparchy, the Very Reverend Kevork Zabarian; Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the UN, the Most Reverend Francis A. Chullikatt; Vicar General of the Diocese of Brooklyn, the Most Reverend Frank Caggiano; Bishop Emeritus of the Eparchy, the Most Reverend Manuel Batakian; the Most Reverend Mikael Mouradian; and Prelate Oshagan Choloyan. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) was represented at the event by ARF Eastern U.S. Central Committee member Hrair Baronian, as well as the chairs of the ARF New York and New Jersey Gomidehs.

The new bishop of the Armenian Catholic Eparchy of the U.S. and Canada, Mikael Mouradian, was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1961. He was ordained a priest in 1987. He has fulfilled several missions prior to his arrival in the U.S., including as secretary general and executive director of Caritas-Armenia (1995-2001), pastor of Our Lady of Annunciation parish in Beirut (2001-05), and Patriarchal Vicar of the Monastery of Our Lady of Bzommar (2007-11).
