Hamparian Issues Statement on Obama ‘Directive on Mass Atrocities’

WASHINGTON—Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) Executive Director Aram Hamparian issued the following statement on the Aug. 4 White House announcement of the “Presidential Study Directive on Mass Atrocities,” which aims to create a framework to prevent mass atrocities and genocide.

“Armenian Americans—descendants of the still-unpunished genocide that served as the blueprint for so many others that followed—welcome the announcement today of the president’s new initiative to prevent future mass atrocities.”

“Sadly, the president’s words are undermined by his own actions.”

“The Obama Administration, like too many before it, has failed to rightfully regard genocide affirmation and prevention as a moral imperative for government action, and has, instead—in flagrant disregard of our nation’s ratification of the Genocide Convention—reduced our nation’s stand against genocide to a political commodity, to be bartered away or surrendered under foreign threats.”

“Nowhere is this more evident today than in our government’s failure to forcefully confront the brutal attacks directed by Sudan’s genocidal dictator Omar al-Bashir against civilians in the Nuba Mountains and across South Kordofan.”

“We see this failure not only in terms of confronting ongoing genocide, but also in the Obama Administration’s complicity in denial, the last stage of genocide. Just two days before the launch of this effort, the president’s nominee to serve as ambassador to Turkey was sent before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee under a strict gag-order—written in Ankara and enforced by our president—not to properly characterize the Armenian Genocide as ‘genocide’. The U.S. ambassador to Armenia nominee was placed in the same untenable position just weeks ago.”

“The sorry spectacle of watching an ambassadorial nominee forced to play verbal gymnastics around the word genocide in order to avoid upsetting the sensitivities of an insecure and intolerant foreign regime, seriously calls into question whether our government has the courage, the vision, or the will to live up to the president’s own assertion today that ‘preventing mass atrocities and genocide is a core national security interest and a core moral responsibility of the United States.'”

  1. Barack Obama, has been president of the United States of America for several years now… Too, for these several years the Sudanese leadership has committed the Sudanese Genocide of the black Darfurian peoples during these years.  Barack Obama, president of the United States of America has not lifted a finger to come to the aid of the Darfurians in their time of need.  (Too, it should be noted that the Sudanese leadership and the Turkish leaderships are allies).  Both the Sudanese and the Turks use Genocides against their victims… getting away with their crimes of Genocide.  When Barack Obama was seeking to win his election to the position of the president of the United States of America he promised “to be the president of the United States who would recognize the Turkish Genocide of the Armenian nation”.  Armenians the world over await… Today, Turks and Sudanese still are guilty of committing the crimes of Genocides – thus have been and are getting away with all crimes of all that is vented on innocents via Genocides…. Sudanese still pursuing the elimination of the black peoples of Darfur. Not a peep out of Barack Obama, president of the United States of America.   Inhumanity to humans awaits recognition. ONLY WHEN THE PERPETRATORS OF GENOCIDES ARE MADE TO FACE THEIR CRIMES WILL OTHER DESPOTS LEARN THAT GENOCIDES CANNOT BE PURSUED – EVER AGAIN.  It is the inhumanity to humans that needs to be ended.  Human slaughtering, raping and worse – for it is innocents are the victims… it is  perpetrators the winners… it is the victims, obviously, the losers!  YET, TODAY, UNTIL THE CIVILIZED NATIONS UNITE, TOGETHER, TO END THE CYCLE OF GENOCIDES DESPOTS, TURKEY AND THE SUDANESE – ARE SAYING: “IN YOUR FACE” TO ALL THE WORLD’S CIVILIZED LEADERSHIPS… AS GENOCIDES CONTINUE – AGAINST VICTIMS.  Mind you, these innocents are not attacked as at wars… For, Genocides are swift, one-sided, and the perpetrators are assured that they will not lose – as with a war (as a Turkey did in WW1 – thus Turks have not since fully entered any wars).  But,obviously, pursues Genocides – knowing full well that a Turkey is to not fear losing – as in a war… but, bullying,  is assured of winning against all their victims – bullying  their pursuit/efforts are via  Genocides of innocents… but ONLY if as, and via – Genocides!
