Men’s Club to Hold 2nd Cigar Night in Memory of Der Vartan

The St. Gregory Church of Merrimack Valley Men’s Club is busy planning the second annual Cigar Night and Dinner in memory of the late Fr. Vartan Kassabian. Last year’s event was a success on many fronts: It brought together the friends of Der Vartan from all over the New England region—from New Hampshire, the Merrimack Valley, to Boston and Providence—in a night of friendship and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, a lot of laughs, and cigars, along with silent and live auctions, and raffles to boot. As Der Vartan used to enjoy an occasional cigar, the Men’s Club saw fit to hold a cigar fundraiser for the church in his memory. God knows Der Hayr often enjoyed a good belly laugh with his friends.

“The success of last year’s event went beyond our wildest dreams,” says event chairperson Greg Minasian. “People kept coming up to me asking when are we going to have the next cigar event. The event raised over $8,000 for the church.”

For those waiting, the time is near. This June 16 is the date, and the committee has raised the bar, trying to outdo last year’s event. They have added as appetizers a seafood bar of shrimp, crab legs, and sushi to go along with the traditional pita, hummus, and cheese. A top shelf open bar will be provided all evening. The dinner this year will be similar to last year’s, with surf and turf of filet mignon and baked stuffed lobster.

All attendees will receive complimentary cigars of three premium labels, along with a premium lighter/cutter and—new this year—a cigar roller, so you can watch your cigar be rolled in front of you, as your fourth complimentary cigar. The event will be hosted by Miss Massachusetts Lacey Wilson. Auction items will be bigger and better, too. Get your tickets early, as this event will sell out fast.

For tickets, contact Greg Minasian at (978) 470-3075 or gminasian@verizon.net, or Rich Berberian at (508) 662-5164 or richard@elysejewelers.com. The event will be held in the church hall, 158 Main St. in North Andover, Mass.
