Obituary: John Basmajian, 89

John Basmajian, of Seamans Ave. in North Providence, passed away on Sat., Dec. 11, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Anna (Markarian) Basmajian. Born in Hudson, Mass., he was the son of the late Giragos and Zaroohi (Barkisian) Basmajian.

John was a polisher of laser rods in the optical industry for many years before retiring. He was a World War II U.S. Army paratrooper veteran and member of the Disabled American Veterans; a member and past trustee of Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church and past delegate to its National Convention; and a member of St. John’s Lodge #1, Providence.

He was the devoted father of Charlene B. Bannon and her husband Peter of Narragansett; loving and cherished grandfather of Luke J. Bannon and Julie D. Bannon; and dear brother of the late Marshall Basmajian and Vera Lindo.

Relatives and friends were invited to attend a Funeral Service in Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence, followed by interment at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 402 Broadway, Providence, RI 02909.
