Lalig Musserian: A Candidate for State Representative in Mass.

BELMONT, Mass.—Lalig Musserian, a long-time resident of Belmont, has a history of caring for people and organizations in her community. And she has the education and professional experience that positions her to make a difference. As such, she’s decided to harness her passion and run for State Representative of the 24th Middlesex District of Massachusetts.

“I believe in Massachusetts. I believe in the resourcefulness of our citizens. Partisan politics are no longer getting it done for the 24th and other districts in Massachusetts. I’m here to challenge the status quo,” says Musserian.

Musserian is a true believer in a common-sense approach of dealing with the issues of the 24 Middlesex District, which include the town of Belmont, Precincts 2 and 4 in Arlington, and North Cambridge.

“As an Independent,” says Musserian, “I put the constituent and the issue at hand first, without obligation to any single party. I am a firm believer in fiscal responsibility and accountability, a sound education for all our children, and helping my neighbors in the 24th District make ends meet in these tough economic times. I want to go to the State House to ensure constituents’ money is used to improve our community, not wasted on projects that don’t benefit them. The economy, jobs, the elderly, our community and our children are my priorities.”

Musserian is the true American story. Coming to this country at the age of 13 with her Armenian family to escape the devastation of civil war in Lebanon, Lalig began school without speaking English. After graduating from Watertown High School, she held three jobs to put herself through the University of Massachusetts at Boston where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics and French, with a minor in German. She is also fluent in Armenian and proficient in Arabic and Turkish.

After school, Musserian soon found herself in leadership roles in the finance, risk management, and international banking fields. Today, she is a technology program manager and manages multiple complex projects, including business, technology, communications, and marketing—all areas that directly relate to skills needed as a State Representative. Her experience working in England, Korea, and India also give her the unique perspectives of managing multifaceted projects alongside people of different backgrounds and work styles. This collaborative style and her strong leadership skills will be critical on Beacon Hill.

In addition to her professional life, Musserian has always had a passion for serving her community. She has extensively served her local, professional, and Armenian communities. Her professional and personal volunteer efforts have included roles as president of the Massachusetts Bay Chapter of the Project Management Institute and Board member of the Professional Risk Managers International Association in Boston. In addition, she has served as chairman of the Board of two Armenian schools, has taught Junior Achievement to children in several Boston public schools, and has participated in numerous events at her church where she has served as master of ceremonies, particularly for events that commemorate the Armenian Genocide. She is truly dedicated to service to her community.

Lalig is married to John Musserian, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), and a local small business owner. Lalig and John are parents to two teenage boys: John, a sophomore in college, and William, a junior at Belmont High School.
