Christmas Celebrations at the Hovnanian School

NEW MILFORD, N.J.—It was the most wonderful time of the year. On Dec. 18, the Hovnanian School had a joyful Christmas concert with the entire school on stage and a full house of Board members, parents, teachers, family members, alumni, and friends enjoying the performance.

The kindergarten students during their class celebration.

The CHS Trio (eight graders Christopher Markosian, Hovig Hartounian, and Shant Bekarian) entertained the audience with pre-set music. After the graceful opening remarks of the second graders, the eighth grade students skillfully conducted the evening. The concert was directed by Carolyn Killilea, music teacher, and Teni Hajjar, a school parent and member of the “Zulal” A Cappella Trio.

The Early Learning Center through kindergarten students delighted the audience with their endless energy and their playful songs in English, Armenian, and French. They were followed by first through fourth grades who performed with gusto another set of songs in those three languages. The seventh and sixth grades performed two songs in Spanish, including “Feliz Navidad” with drums and maracas. The fifth through eighth grades performed several songs in Armenian, English, and French, some of them with percussion instruments and xylophone, and some others with guitar accompaniment by Elias Guzman. The students received a standing ovation as a well-deserved reward
for an enjoyable concert.

The last day of school before the Christmas holidays was the traditional open house for family and friends. Guests had a wonderful time listening to the songs, recitations, and skits performed by the students in their classrooms. Everybody also enjoyed Santa’s visit. At the end of the morning, the students had classroom parties and left for their holiday.
