MAY 17, 2009 * UNVEILING: ALAN HOVHANESS MONUMENT. The unveiling of the Alan Hovhaness Monument will take place on the grounds of the Jefferson Cutter House in Arlington center, Mass., at 2 p.m., followed by a free open to public concert at the Arlington Town Hall at 3 p.m. It will feature works by Hovhaness, Hayg Boyadjian, and other composers, directed by Dr. Pasquale Tassone; and performers Martin Berkofsky and Ani Hovsepian, Orlando Cela, and Cynthia Forbes. It will also be the site of the world premiere of “Dzon” by P. Tassone for solo marimba, string orchestra, and percussion, featuring Silvie Zakarian on marimba and the Arlington High School Madrigal Singers and Honors Orchestra.
