Chicago Chapter Prepares to Host AYF Olympics

GLENVIEW, Ill.—On Jan. 30, the 2011 AYF-YOARF Olympic Chicago Steering Committee hosted its first community meeting. The committee introduced itself to the community and highlighted some of the excitement that’s in store for the weekend. Hrach Alexanian introduced the theme and logo for the weekend: “Blown Away in the Windy City”.

The committee is busy preparing a weekend full of tradition, good competition, and fraternalism—the Chicago way.

Members of the committee shared the accomplishments thus far in preparation for the 78th Annual AYF-YOARF Olympic Games. Pat Keyorian highlighted sporting venues, while Nayri Mekhitarian spoke on the entertainment line-up for the weekend. Paul Kokuzian spoke about the importance of the Adbook and urged community members to show their support.

This is Chicago’s forth run at hosting the Olympic Games. “We are making every effort to encourage people to attend this AYF tradition,” said co-chair Maral Vartanian-Abrahamian. “We have American Airlines discount, Avis Car rental discount, etc. Anyone who’s attended the past three Chicago Olympics can validate a great time. That’s what we are working on: providing a great time, paying respect AYF members, alumni and the AYF family.”

The Olympics Steering Committee is comprised of co-chairs Maral Vartanian-Abrahamian and Hrach Alexanian, treasurer Sylva Jerikian, and secretary Astghig Kevorkian, with Pat Keyorian in charge of athletics, Nayri Mekhitarian entertainment,

Shant Papazian web, Paul Kokuzian the Adbook, and Melanie Mardoian welcoming.

During the meeting, the committee passed out calendar magnets that provided the email address for the steering committee. Weekly readers take note, it’s: chicagoolympics@ayf.org.
