Armenian Renaissance Association announces 2024 scholarship recipients

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich.—The Armenian Renaissance Association, a 501c3 nonprofit organization based in southeast Michigan, awarded six scholarships to college students who are Michigan residents and a minimum of 25% Armenian. The students, who accepted their awards at the annual ARA scholarship awards dinner in September, included:

  • Naro Chopjian, University of Michigan, Barkey & Satenie Aranoisan Undergraduate Scholarship 
  • Sophia Kazarian, Michigan State University, Jack & Zarrouhe Shoushanian Undergraduate Scholarship
  • Alexander Kurkechian, University of Michigan, Armenian Renaissance Association Scholarship
  • Gasia Oknayan, Columbia University, Armenian Renaissance Association Scholarship
  • Vardan Sargsyan, University of Michigan, Andrew Kalagian Graduate Scholarship
  • Nadine Shoushanian, Michigan State University, Armenian Renaissance Undergraduate Scholarship

Scholarship applications are distributed to eligible students in May of each year. Applicants must have completed the required number of credits as specified on the applications. 

Each application is reviewed and rated based on specific criteria, including cumulative grade point average, involvement in extracurricular activities, clubs and/or charities and involvement in Armenian-based activities and leadership. Additionally, applicants are required to submit an essay on an assigned topic, and graduate students must submit references.
