‘Hai-Tahd’ Leaders Meet Karabagh President, Parliament Head

STEPANAKERT, Nagorno-Karabagh—Leaders of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Hai-Tahd committees headed to Stepanakert over the weekend and met with Nagorno-Karabagh Republic President Bako Sahakian and parliamentary speaker Ashot Ghoulyan.

During the meeting, Sahakian praised the activities of Hai-Tahd committees around the world, especially in their efforts toward international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, strengthening the diaspora, and their struggle for the aspirations of the Armenian nation.

Sahakian emphasized the need for the committees to focus on various aspects of the Karabagh conflict resolution process, namely, the international recognition of the Nagorno-Karabagh Republic and expanded cooperation with Karabagh authorities in that realm.

The Hai-Tahd representatives, who were headed by ARF Bureau member Hagop Der-Khachadourian, also met with Ghoulyan, who presented the posturing of official Stepanakert and the work ahead in the current phase of the conflict resolution process.

Ghoulyan said that under no circumstances should the veracity of the Armenian Genocide and Karabagh’s right to self-determination become topics of discussion, and added that the Nagorno-Karabagh Republic must be made a party to the negotiation process.

The two sides also discussed the need to dispel the myth that returning liberated territories would lead to peace. In fact, it was concluded, the opposite is true—making concessions increases the chance for a resumption of the war.

The Hai-Tahd delegation also met with Artsakh Primate Archbishop Parkev Martirosian, who briefed his guests on the activities of the Karabagh Diocese.

Participants of the Hai-Tahd conference also took part in celebrations marking the 18th anniversary of the liberation of Shoushi and the 65th anniversary of Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.
