Armenian Heritage Foundation of Philadelphia inaugural event to honor Charles Aznavour

PHILADELPHIA—The Armenian Heritage Foundation of Philadelphia is delighted to announce its inaugural charitable and cultural event, an intimate evening dedicated to celebrating the life and accomplishments of the legendary French-Armenian chansonnier Charles Aznavour, in recognition of his 100th birthday.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. at the historic Philadelphia Club, the oldest private urban club in the United States, located at 1301 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107.

Aznavour, who passed away at age 94, performed worldwide until the very end. He sang in five languages, wrote well over 1,000 songs, appeared in scores of movies, including Atom Egoyan’s Ararat, and sold over 180 million albums. In 1998, Aznavour was named Entertainer of the Century by CNN. Born in Paris to immigrant parents, he remained steadfastly devoted to his Armenian heritage.

Festivities will begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, with scenes of the soon-to-be-realized Armenian Heritage Walk at The Philadelphia Museum of Art and memorable audio-video moments from Aznavour’s extraordinary career as a backdrop.

Guests will also enjoy an exquisite culinary experience, featuring a dinner of French cuisine crafted by The Philadelphia Club’s award-winning chef as an homage to Aznavour. Both French and Armenian wines will be served throughout.

The evening’s highlight will be a captivating performance by acclaimed young French Armenian singer Hakob, who will perform Aznavour’s most cherished songs, bringing his timeless music to life. Hakob was the winner of the 2015 Prodiges classical French singer’s contest and a semi-finalist of The Voice France in 2020.

This elegant and unique affair requires black tie attire for men and cocktail attire for women, setting the stage for a night of sophistication and celebration.

Tickets are priced at $1,000.00 per person, and all ticket proceeds will be earmarked for the Armenian Heritage Walk project, a community initiative dedicated to honoring and preserving our Armenian legacy. The Armenian Heritage Foundation of Philadelphia is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization; therefore, a portion of the ticket price will be deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. 100% of ticket sales will benefit the Armenian Heritage Walk, a direct result of a generous benefactor who has volunteered to underwrite the evening’s expenses.

About Charles Aznavour

Charles Aznavour, one of the world’s most beloved singers and songwriters, left an indelible mark on music with his heartfelt lyrics and emotive performances. Celebrating his 100th birthday anniversary, this event pays tribute to his extraordinary legacy and enduring influence on music. While Aznavour has been described by many as the French Frank Sinatra, the noted BBC broadcaster Piers Morgan corrected that description upon learning of Aznavour’s passing and said, Sinatra was America’s Aznavour! He was a beacon of French culture and likely the most visible Armenian of the 20th century.
