Dedicated Member of the Armenian Community Queenie Haboian Passes Away Peacefully in Providence

Queenie Haboian

Queenie Haboian passed away peacefully on Oct. 25, 2017, in Providence.

Born and raised in Providence, she lived a happy and productive life with her beloved husband of 40 years, Harry Haboian, in Waltham, Mass. until 2006, when she returned to Cranston to live with her dear devoted twin sister, Mary Fermanian, whom she leaves.

She was the daughter of Stephen Fermanian and Goulbig Bedrosian and the sister of the late Gladys Fermanian.

Queenie worked for 30 years for the United States Department of Defense. She was a member of the St. Stephen’s Armenian Church of Watertown, Mass. and very active member of its Ladies’ Guild where she devoted much of her time and talents.  She was also a member of the Sts. Vartanantz Church of Providence.  Besides her church devotion, Queenie was also a lifelong supporter of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF-YOARF), an organization which connects the younger generation of Armenian descendants worldwide.

Queenie will be remembered for her cheer, charm and optimism to all who knew her. She enjoyed the cultural life which Boston area offered for many decades and shared those experiences with family and friends.  A life-long Patriots fan, Queenie and her husband could be found at many football games over the years.  She was comfortable in the finest of environments as well as raw spirit of the games. She will also be remembered as a wonderful cook and generous entertainer, loving wife, sister, friend and relation.

Her main caretaker was her twin sister Mary, who did everything in her power to make life as comfortable as possible for her dear sibling.

Queenie would often return to Providence with the ladies from Boston where she lived until her husband Harry passed away many years ago. They would dine in our city and all would marvel at the Armenian flag flying at the RI State House during the April 24th period, year after year. Queenie was so proud of where her roots were.

She may have left her hometown, but her heart always remained here. I think that’s true for most who leave this old factory town of Providence for whatever the circumstance.

For this reason, Mary brought Queenie back here to spend her remaining years.

Rest in Eternal Peace Queenie.

Job Well Done Ms. Mary,

Steve Elmasian
