  1. I was there in your country few months back. It’s a wonderful place…people are so cool.
Am glad to hear that there’s a law passed foer domestic violence.
Family is the smallest unit of the society where love from husband & wife started & passed unto their children & as such should be strengthened. Wives subject themselves to their husbands…and husbands must love his wife as he loves himself. Family without love from both husbands & wives won’t be a happy family…my opinion.

  2. It is wonderful to know that the Armenian government is about to pass a law against Domestic Violence serving as a model for other governments. CONGRATULATIONS !

  3. I have been a psychologist handling family, business and empowerment lectures & work almost 30 years. Recently, I took a Mission Trip to Yerevan to assess the Domestic Violence issue. Having read in the Armenian weekly about this crime few years ago, I was highly concerned about this major crime that was not being addressed by the govt. of Armenia.
Sadly to say that I discovered that this crime was much more widespread than I thought.
Thus, coming home to US, I founded a group of highly intelligent and caring men and women to fight this crime for our ‘motherland’s dear sisters. Our Advocacy Group is called American Armenian Alliance Against Domestic Abuse; acronym = AAAaDa
*I am the Chair of this AAAaDa, and have written to all Executive Directors of 12 major Armenian American organizations, letters explaining our group’s role in sending letters to these organizations urging them to appeal to Armenia’s Parliament for setting strict laws to punish the perpetrators of D/V. This is, indeed, a black mark for our nation. This should be addressed immediately and forcibly.
If you are interested, I can send you my Mission Trip Report for your information. I happily report you that I had several telephone conferences with some of the Armenian American Organizations’ Executive Directors such as Mr. Bryan Ardouny of AAA,Inc. who promised to help as much as possible talking to major Armenian leader and officials. And I am extremely happy to say that I also had a long telephone conversation with the Chief Exec. Director of ANCA, Mr. Aram Hamparian who promised me that he would personally call and speak to the Parliament’s members in Armenia very soon. That was musicA to my ears, and I thanked him profusely. And soon after my conversation with \Mr. Hamparian, a week later I heard and read in your Weekly that Armenia is planning and having set laws vs. Domestic Violence. WOW! That was long overdue. I know many NGOs have worked very diligently in Armenia to stop this crime, but the govt. does not heed them at all, and they are continuously ignored. That should not be! This Human Rights issue is a major issue to be corrected once and for all.
Since my visit to Armenia end of April to May 9, 2017, I worked with the Tufenkian Foundation’s Women Support Center with Maro Matossian, the Executive Director and her volunteer women. And when I came back to US, I was determined to do something to stop this heinous crime for sure. Having worked diligently to get my group organized and reaching all the American Armenian Organizations made the big impact to make a diference w ith Armenia’s Parliament. All this was done from my visit to Armenian to the fuition of laws being implemented only 5,1/2-6 months. If you need any details, I will be happy to let you have it.
Even if the laws are established now, they must be pursued with utmost care and diligence without any excuse to eradicate this terrible crime in Armenia.
We are a Christian Nation, as a matter of fact, the First Christian Nation by Govt. in 301 A. D. Our History is rich, and our innocent young mothers do not deserve such beastly treatment of death. Also, when nothing is done to stop this crime, it continues forever, and prepares the next generations of abusers because of the conditioning effects.
Let’s pray and hope that this Law is legitimate and forceful in supporting family tranquility for better future citizens valuing human life as a whole.
    Respectfully submitted,
Virginia Apelian, Chair of AAAaDa (to our knowledge, this is the only Diaspora Group that has challenged the Govt. of Armenia. And this is not a secret anymore, because even theUN is condemning Armenia for its rampant D/V.)
