The AYF-YOARF Providence ‘Varantian’ Chapter February Recap

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— February was an exciting month for the “Hey John Kids,” who held a members’ meeting, a social, a special event, and a fundraiser.

The chapter’s first official meeting of 2017 was on Feb. 11. The meeting was full of insightful ideas and brainstorming regarding fundraisers throughout the year. The chapter also had an educational about St. Gregory and St. Patrick presented by the chapter’s educational committee: Sevan Zobian, Sevan Donoyan, and George Donoyan. After the meeting AYF Seniors and Juniors went ice-skating in downtown Providence at the Alex and Ani City Center. Although it was freezing outside, everyone had a wonderful time.

On Feb. 25, the “Varantian” chapter held a fundraiser to benefit Syrian Relief. Garo Tashian organized this fundraiser, selling tickets to a Providence College Friars basketball game. It was great to get the AYF youth and community together for a great cause. Another plus was that the PC Friars beat the Marquette Golden Eagles 73-69!

Lastly, on Feb. 26, the Armenian community of Providence celebrated Vartanants Day. After church , a reception was held and members of the church, including AYF members, were awarded for all that they do for the community.

All in all, February was an outstanding month for our chapter and we’re excited to see where the rest of the year will take us!
