  1. Vote bribing is the name of the new game, that is, Sergik’s new game. He changed the constitution through rigged voting, and now another rigged voting is planned – all so that the Republican Party and Sergik can continue to rule and plunder the country. So far everything goes as planned. Vote bribes are promised in higher than ever amounts, and nobody even cares to hide it…
The opposition is very busy – some (Dodi Gago Tsarukian and Orinats Yerkir) are busy putting out rival vote bribing campaigns to steal from the Republican Party. Others who don’t have money are busy to take place in pretend elections. Raffi Hovhannisyan has been the biggest disgrace of all opposition, joining forces with former ministers of the corrupt and illegitimate regime. Sadly, there is nothing to look forward in what looks like to be the most expensive “election” in Armenia’s history.

    • This is what the government is doing to stop vote rigging (See quote #8 below), what are the PEOPLE going to do to stop the vote rigging? It is up to them to make the wise choice, the long term choice rather than filling up their tummy for the day (literally). Will they stand up to their friends, family members and advise them against selling their vote for a mere 10,000 AMD? or will tag along to sell their vote as well? That is up to them, no system, no government can change that, you might be offered a bribe, but you can say no.
HOWEVER, there is this next excuse, that there is pressure from above and one might loose its job, AGAIN, when you walk into the booth NO ONE knows who you voted for. If not taking that 10,000 AMD bribe means you marking yourself to loose your job, then take the money “bribe”, and vote for whoever you wanted to vote for in the first place and not the candidate of the briber. Why is it so difficult!?!

“8. A new Electoral Code was negotiated and adopted by all key political parties ahead of these elections, which eliminates vote-rigging through multiple-voting and election day violations through the introduction of electronic machines and live video feeds of voting stations, and means of greater oversight (including publishing the lists of those who actually participated in the voting) than ever before;”

  2. A clear explanation.
See especially point 6 under the second section:
” If any participating party achieves a minimum of 54% of the vote”
There is high probability that the ruling Republican Party will achieve this and will remain in power.

This does not bode well as nothing will really change. It will depend on how the opposition parties act and if they will be able to act as oppositon and be effective.

  3. For this post the last few comments by “Garabed” and I have surprisingly disappeared in recent weeks. My last comment I believe never appeared. Just noting for site technical auditing purposes.

  4. They came to the Kond neighbourhood a few weeks before the election organised a meeting with the residents there and offered 10,000 dram ($20) per person to buy their vote. That is how cheaply democracy is sold in Yerevan now, for $20. And most people do not care. The ruling elites know it, apathy runs so deep, they do not even try to hide their corruption, they offer bribes at a open public meeting.

Every people deserve their government. If we sell our voices then we deserve how we live.
