Russia, Armenia Agree to Joint Military Force

Russia Expands Cooperation with Azerbaijan

MOSCOW, Russia (A.W.)—The Defense Ministers of Russia and Armenia, Sergey Shoygu and Vigen Sargsyan, signed an agreement establishing joint troops between the two countries, reported the Russian news agency TASS.

No public statement was made following the meeting between the two sides. The deal was approved by President Putin earlier this month.

The Armenian Defense Minister stated that the combined troops will be deployed at the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri. “The main task of the United Group of Troops is to identify preparation of military aggression against Armenia and Russia in a timely manner and to repel it jointly with the armed forces of Armenia and Russia,” said Sargsyan.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani lawmakers have condemned the Russian-Armenian agreement, stating that it shows proof of Russian support for Armenia in the Nagorno-Karabagh (Artsakh/NKR) conflict.

Prior to meeting with his Sarksyan, Russian Defense Minister Shoygu also met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Zakir Hasanov earlier on Nov. 30 to discuss further cooperation between their two countries.

According to TASS, the two discussed preparing a plan for a military cooperation, which would apply to staff negotiations, military contracts, and military education. This cooperation would also include matters such as training Azerbaijani servicemen in Russian educational institutions and ensuring the overall security of the Caspian Sea.

  1. BTW this joint force in no way I see, stops Russia from supplying more arms to Azerbaijan. I get that Russia is better then a neocon Zionist West, who will NEVER be Armenia’a friend and would be all too glad if Armenia disappeared, but Russia is no real friend to Armenia either. Does anyone here not thing Russia already knew of the 4 day war before it happened? Did it warn Armenia prior, you know, its “great ally in the caucus”? No it didn’t. Im convinced Russia thrives on the conflict and has no intention of truly being on Armenia’s side or letting Armenia out of its box….

  2. Exactly in which historical period have the Russians–ethnic Russians, and not Judeo-Masonic Bolsheviks–let us down? Curious to know…

  3. When children grow up and put away their toy soldiers they may just come to the realization that Armenia exists in a place like the south Caucasus primarily because of the Russian presence in the region. And that has been the case for the past two hundred years. Therefore, thank God for Russia. Despite flaws that exists in the strategic partnership between Moscow and Yerevan Russia will continue being Armenia’s only ally in the world.

  4. {Russia is no real friend to Armenia}

    Why, in international politics there is such a thing as “real friend”? Give us just a couple examples from history when a mightier state acted altruistically, as a “real friend”, for a smaller state.

    {Does anyone here not think Russia already knew of the 4-day war before it happened?}

    Judging from the timing and the course of war, I’d venture a guess that even Armenia knew of the April war before it happened.

  5. Levon,

    In terms of “they (the Russians) not letting us down,” is indeed very unlikely. In addition to over four billion dollars worth of military arms that they’ve supplied to Armenia’s mortal enemy (Azerbaijan), the Russians still plan to furnish the Azeris with so many more military weapons within the near future. Furthermore, the Russians have never once condemned Azerbaijan for its brutal campaign of terrorism against Armenia and Artsakh. Once again, contrary to Armenia who has indeed been a true ally, Russia has indeed been a fake ally.

  6. Don’t matter what Russia sells Azerbaijan, without Russia there is no Armenia. Russia is Armenia’s only friend in this world. After Armenians Russians are the ONLY people in this world that would spill blood for Armenia.

  7. “After Armenians, Russians are the Only people in the world that would spill blood for Armenia.”

    Well, the Russians are certainly not spilling any blood for Armenia whenever the Azeris launch long-range rocket attacks onto Armenia’s soil (Tavush province). Furthermore, back in January of 2015, it happened to be a Russian scum soldier (Valery Permyakov) who spilled Armenian blood on Armenia’s soil, by massacring seven members of the Avetisyan family, which also included the stabbing of a six-month-old baby.

    • Yerevanian, you continue sounding like a typical Soros operative. Moscow sent troops thousands of miles way to help preserve their geostrategic interests in Syria. A number of Russians have already died on Syrian soil. Being that Armenia is closer to Russia and plays even a more important strategic role than Syria, no one in their right mind doubts Russia’s willingness to spill blood for Armenia. Thousands of Russian men and women have died fighting Turks/Persians/Muslims on Armenian soil during the past two hundred years. Armenia has been, is and will continue being one of the most important strategic locations for Russia. After Armenians, Russians are the ONLY people on earth willing to sacrafice their sons and daughters for Armenia. If you don’t know this, you are either a Wester financed cyberwarrior or an ignoramous. Serious people do not doubt for one moment that Russia is ready to protect Armenia and Artsakh from all enemies. This however does not mean that everytime Azeris fire across the border into Armenian territory Russians will jump ino the fight. Unlike what you may think, politics is not a street fight. At the end of the day, Russians are keeping Turks at bay in the west, allowing us Armenians to concentrate our resources against a more manageable enemy in the east. What I am telling you here is that if you are an Armenian, at least have some pride and self-respect and stop whining about Azeris. There is another aspect to this conversation: If significant numbers of Armenians were Russophobes like you, Moscow would have no choice but to allow Azeris to retake Azrtsakh.

    • {if you are an Armenian…}

      He’s not. He made several slips-of-the-tongue in other threads—all suggesting that he most likely is a petty Azeri agent provocateur. What can you possibly expect from a person who wrote this about Armenia’s strategic alliance with Russia?

      “Besides being a gigantic garbage can, filled with empty vodka bottles, exactly what kind of hope can Putin’s Russia offer to anybody besides corruption?”

    • That same notorious runt continues to make an even bigger clown out of itself. What does speaking out against your country’s wrongful actions against Armenia have to do with being a typical Soros/Western operative?

      In terms of Russians having died on Armenian soil, this actually occurred when they attempted to attach Armenia’s Syunik province to Azerbaijan (shortly after Armenia became a Soviet republic), but were encountered by the Armenian national hero, Garegin Nzhdeh, who along with his followers, put up such a fierce resistance that Soviet Russia ended up changing its mind. Russians also died on Armenia’s soil during the 1991-1994 Artsakh War while assisting the Azeris, which resulted in the two battlefield losses sustained by the Armenian side.

      “Serious people do not doubt for one moment that Russia is ready to protect Armenia and Artsakh from all enemies.”

      You actually consider yourself serious by making this kind of ludicrous statement? If you actually did some serious reading, you would seriously find out that Azerbaijan persistently sprays gunfire (on a daily basis) into Artsakh, and frequently shells (with long-range rockets) the border villages in Armenia’s Tavush province, which results in many Armenians being killed; but yet, your Russian compatriots have never once done anything to render protection to the Armenian side. What about the war of four days, back in April, in which the Azeris launched an all-out invasion? Again, the Russians did absolutely nothing to help protect the Armenian side. Furthermore, throughout this whole entire time, the Russians have never once condemned Azerbaijan for its brutal campaign of terrorism against Armenia and Artsakh. That just comes to show how “serious” your Russia is in protecting Armenia and Artsakh.

    • “Besides being a gigantic garbage can, filled with empty vodka bottles, exactly what kind of hope can Putin’s Russia offer to anybody besides corruption?”

      Yes, exactly! If that corrupt scum of Putin is not capable of offering hope to the people in your country (Russia), then he most certainly will not be capable of offering hope to people in other countries.

  8. John, I don’t think he is an Azeri agent. Sadly, there are many Armenians in service of Western powers that talk like him. Listen to Armenia’s socalled “political opposition”, their rhetoric sounds exactly the same as Azeri propaganda about Armenia and Russia.
