  1. A country, like Turkey, that sets aside funds in its annual budget for building and renovating Mosques is not a secular country. A country, like Turkey, that puts journalists who do not toe the government line in jails is not a democratic country. A country, like Turkey, that has violently mistreated its non-Moslem and non-Turk citizens throughout history does not deserve to be part of the European Union.
