Hovsepian, Messenger to Perform in Belmont

BELMONT, Mass.—The winners of the 2015 Belmont High School (BHS) Concerto Competition, Haig Hovsepian and Hanna Messenger, will perform selected pieces at the BHS auditorium on March 4 and April 1, respectively.

The School Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Margot Reavey, and the High School Band, conducted by Arto Asadoorian, will provide the very exciting and challenging accompaniment parts for the pieces played by Hovsepian and Messenger.

Hovsepian, a violinist, will perform the third movement of Aram Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto in D minor. Hovsepian is a sophomore at Belmont High School, currently studying violin with Kyoko Horowitz at the New England Conservatory (NEC) Preparatory School. This year, he was named winner of the Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition, and will perform on May 9 under the baton of Maestro Michael Korn. As a violinist, Hovsepianis an active member of chamber groups and orchestras at NEC. He also plays saxophone, and is a proud member of the High School Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble.

Hanna Messenger

Messenger is a junior at Belmont High School. She studies horn with Eli Epstein at NEC Preparatory School, where she also plays in the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. At school, she is in the marching band and the Performing Arts Company. She plans to study music and physics in college. On April 1, she will play the first movement of Horn Concerto op 8 by Franz Strauss.
