AYF to Commemorate Genocide Centennial

Eternal Flame Comes to Philadelphia in August

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—This August, the Philadelphia chapter of the Armenian Youth Federation (AYF) commemorates the 100th year since the start of the Armenian Genocide, on April 24, 1915. The yearlong initiative centers on the Eternal Flame, which represents the everlasting faith and passion that has united and strengthened the Armenian community during the past century. In April of 2014, The Eternal Flame began its journey in Armenia, then the East Coast of the U.S., followed by Canada, and the West Coast of the U.S. In April 2015, it will travel back to Turkey.

Philadelphia will be home to the Eternal Flame during the month of August. Armenian youth have planned various celebrations in the Philadelphia area, beginning on Thurs., Aug. 21, with a memorial service and candlelight vigil, and culminating on Sun., Aug. 24 with an Armenian-sponsored night at the Philadelphia Phillies.
