Babson College President to Address AIWA Annual Meeting

WATERTOWN, Mass.—The Annual Meeting of the Armenian International Women’s Association (AIWA) will be held on Sat., June 21, at Wellesley College’s Wang Center, beginning at 10 a.m., with lunch scheduled for 12 noon. Dr. Kerry Healey, who took office as the first woman president of Babson College in July 2013, will be the luncheon speaker.

Internationally recognized for her nearly three decades of service in academia, government, and humanitarian work both in the United States and abroad, Healey served as lieutenant governor of Massachusetts from 2003-07. During that time, she led successful efforts to expand legal protection and services for victims of domestic violence and child abuse, increase penalties for drunken driving, and create recovery high schools to support education for formerly drug-addicted youth.

In 2008, she was appointed a founding member of the Executive Committee of the U.S. State Department’s Public-Private Partnership for Justice Reform in Afghanistan. Subsequently she helped Afghan lawyers attend top U.S. law schools to study human rights issues and commercial law and to establish Afghanistan’s first Law Review. As a trustee of the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF), she worked to secure scholarships for Afghan women and, in conjunction with Stanford Law School, to establish a law program at AUAF.

Healey earned her AB in government from Harvard College and her PhD in political science and law from Trinity College, Dublin. She has been a fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics and Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership.

Babson College, founded in 1919, is known for its undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs to foster business education. It includes a Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership.

AIWA’s Annual Meeting will open with coffee at 9:30 a.m., and the business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Special reports will be presented regarding AIWA programs in Armenia, including the Women’s Entrepreneurship Program at the American University of Armenia and funding for the Women’s Support Center in Yerevan. Scholarship awards to female students in higher educational institutions around the world will be announced. The latest details regarding AIWA’s upcoming Seventh International Conference on Oct. 9-12 in Yerevan will be available.

Following the luncheon, attendees will be able to view the unique exhibit, “Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection,” at Wellesley College’s Davis Museum.
