ANCA Invites Romney to Share Views on Armenian-American Issues

Calls on Governor to Meet with Community’s Broad-Based Leadership

WASHINGTON—The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) on Aug. 17 continued its outreach to the Romney-Ryan presidential campaign by calling upon Romney to spell out his views on Armenian-American issues and to meet personally with the broad-based leadership of the Armenian-American community.

Earlier this week, the ANCA issued a similar call to President Obama to meet with community leaders and personally explain his administration’s policies on issues of special concern to Armenian-American voters.  As governor of Massachusetts from 2003-07, Romney represented one of the nation’s largest and most vibrant Armenian communities.

The full text of the ANCA letter to Romney, signed by ANCA Chairman Ken Hachikian, is provided below.

The Honorable Mitt Romney
Romney for President
PO Box 149756
Boston, MA 02114-9756

Dear Governor Romney,

I am writing to ask you to publicly outline the policies and priorities that you would pursue as president on issues of special concern to voters of Armenian heritage and other friends of Armenia from across the United States, and also to invite you to hold a meeting with the broad-based leadership of our community to discuss Armenian-American participation in this year’s elections.

A personal meeting, with a representative group of national community leaders, would offer you the opportunity to share your vision, explain your record, clarify your priorities, and explore, with us, ways in which we can work together in the months and years to come.  By outlining your views, in the attached questionnaire, you can help empower Armenian-Americans to go to the polls this November fully informed about your stated stands on specific issues that hold great meaning to their families and communities.

Please accept our thanks for your consideration of our request that you meet with our community leadership and publicly outline your views on Armenian-American issues.

Sincerely,

[signed]

Kenneth V. Hachikian

Chairman

  1. Well if you keep on doing the same thing you can only expect to get the same results. They will tell you what you want to hear now, and turn around and betray you after the election.
Most governments, including the Turkish governments will take you more seriously if you have a representative body (a government) of Western Armenia and Cilicia which can represent the dispersed Armenians. Otherwise Armenian rights are going to be classified as issued to be resolved between Armenia and Turkey. Not here!

    • Svetiana,

Armenians are one nation, when we are dealing with genocide !!!Genocide committed against Armenian Nation of the world…Armenia divided by great powers of the past, and Bolshevik revolutionary leader, Lenin gave away our beloved Ani, Kars, Mt. Ararat, and…. to Ottoman Turkey and later dictator Stalin gave away Artsakh and Nakhichevan to Tatar-Turks in order to complete 1917 revolution!!

  2. Ha, don’t expect much from either candidate. One of them will probably lie about saying they’ll recognize the Armenian genocide again only so they can get Armenian-American votes, like they always do.

  3. Svetlana,

The Diaspora has been formed by the remnants of the orphans that miraculously survived the Armenian Genocide and thus became the Diasporan Armenians. Although unfortunately I agree with you based with past experience on U.S. Presidents, excepting President Ronald Raegan who did utter the word Genocide and did not lie to Armenians after he took office; however when a Genocide happened to this magnitude as it happened to the Armenian nation first from 1895 thru 1896 by the bloody hands of Red Abdul Hamid and then headed by Talaat Pasha of the Committee of Union and Progress from 1915 thru 1923 who was the mastermind of murdering more than 2,000,000 Armenians, 800,000 Pontiac Greeks and 800,000 Christian Assyrians, cannot be forgotten and can never be put under any rug. Sooner or later Armenians will demand their lands and their properties for blood money. At the moment there is no Western Armenia or Cilician Armenian government, because Turkey banned Armenians from Diaspora to relocate to their homeland and their properties 20 or 30 years after the Armenian Genocide. However sooner or later Turkey will have to admit their great crime and pay back Armenians for the crime that they committed. The USA is one of the few countries that can facilitate this progress to have Turkey admit it and move on as a civilized country and nationality.

  4. I think it is time for the Armenian-American community to endorse their own Armenian heritage personnel into the presidency. Asking people and believing their word is just another betrayal to our own-self and worse haven’t we learned that ever since Clinton Administration, the Armenian Genocide issue has been a gambling game, sadly. What the Armenian-American community needs to do is put their power together and endorse Armenian-Americans into politics, so they can run for campaigns/elections. The other thing I’d like to add is that building Armenia and making it powerful is going to be the only voice we have in the world….in other words, if we want to be heard and we want things our way, we will need to have republic of Armenia powerful, which I do believe together we can make that happen.
I’d also like to Salute ANCA for its hard work ethics, love to their communities, and dedication on the Armenian-American issue. But I wish to see more!
    May GOD Bless you!
