AYF NATs 2011 Held in DC

The 2011 AYF-YOARF National Athletic Tournaments (NATs) took place on March 4-6 in the greater Washington, D.C. area. The event was hosted by the AYF Washington “Ani” Chapter and brought in around 300 members from throughout the Eastern Region and Canada. The weekend was centered at the Hyatt Arlington in Virginia, and athletes were transported to the social events and athletic tournaments. The festivities began on Friday night, during which the AYF had a portion of a nightclub reserved for all the guests, with entertainment provided by D.C.’s DJ Raffi.

Throughout the entire day on Saturday, the athletes participated in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball tournaments in Bethesda, Md. Although members from throughout the region were in attendance, the chapters that participated in the tournaments were the Washington, D.C. “Ani,” New Jersey “Arsen,” New York “Hyortik,” North Andover “Sassoun,” Providence “Varantian,” Greater Boston “Nejdeh,” Philadelphia “Sebouh,” Detroit “Kopernik Tandourjian,” and Toronto “Simon Zavarian” Chapters.

Men’s basketball

1st place: Greater Boston “Nejdeh” Chapter
2nd place: Detroit “Kopernik Tandourjian” Chapter
3rd place: Toronto “Simon Zavarian” Chapter

Women’s basketball

1st place: Greater Boston “Nejdeh” Chapter
2nd place: Detroit “Kopernik Tandourjian” Chapter
3rd place: Washington, D.C. “Ani” Chapter

Women’s volleyball

1st place: Washington, D.C. “Ani” Chapter
2nd place: Providence “Varantian” Chapter

On Saturday night, a barahantes was held in the hotel ballroom and featured the Aravod Ensemble and DJ Raffi, followed by a heghapokhagan hour provided by D.C.’s very own Kristapor Arabian.
