Arsenal Center to Honor Mosesian

WATERTOWN, Mass.—The Arsenal Center for the Arts will pay tribute to the late Charles Mosesian, businessman and philanthropist, at its 5th anniversary celebration on Wednesday evening, April 6. The evening’s program will feature a performance in the Charles Mosesian Theater by award-winning Broadway actress/singer (Cats, Miss Saigon) and recording artist Liz Callaway.

The center will take this special occasion to announce the creation of the first annual Charles Mosesian Award for Support of the Arts. This year’s presentation will be made to longtime arts and entertainment critic Joyce Kulhawik. John Airasian, the owner of Eastern Clothing Company, and Mosesian’s daughters, Elaine Mosesian and Charleen Onanian, will make the presentation. The Mosesian Award will annually recognize individuals or organizations who exemplify Mosesian’s commitment to the arts, the arts community, and the Arsenal Center for the Arts.

A founding member of the Arsenal Center’s Board of Directors and longtime friend of Mosesian’s, Airasian says, “As we celebrate the wonderful success of the center on the occasion of its 5th anniversary, it is only appropriate that we once again recall, acknowledge, and celebrate Charlie Mosesian’s remarkable gift to the community and that we honor his memory by announcing the creation of this award in his name.”

Airasian recalls the early support of Mosesian and the pivotal role he played in helping to launch the Arsenal Center for the Arts. “It was just over 10 years ago that I reached out to the local business community with little more than an idea and a blue print for building an Arts Center in Watertown. Charlie Mosesian quickly stepped forward to lend his support, making a remarkable $1 million dollar gift that helped launch our building campaign. It was Charlie’s leadership that made the difference, inspiring others in Watertown and the surrounding area to lend their support and create the wonderful community of arts and artists we now call the Arsenal Center for the Arts.”

“Charlie was all about ‘giving back’ to the community in which he lived and did business,” Airasian continued. “We are proud that our magnificent theater in the Arts Center bears his name. He has left us all an extraordinary legacy. We will continue to honor his memory with this award. I urge Charlie’s many friends and supporters to be on hand for this celebration.”

The center’s 5th anniversary celebration program, titled “And the Beat Goes On,” begins at 7 p.m. with a reception and music. The performance and presentation follow at 8 in the Mosesian Theater. Following the performance, the audience will be invited on stage for a birthday celebration and a chance to mingle with the evening’s performers.
