Balakian to Read at Cornell, Hunter College

Peter Balakian will read from his new book of poems Ziggurat for Cornell University’s spring poetry series on Thurs., March 3 at 4:30 p.m. in the Hollis E. Cornell Auditorium, Goldwin Smith Hall. The reading is free and open to the public.

At Hunter College on March 16, Balakian will read from both Ziggurat and the latest edition of his memoir Black Dog of Fate. The reading will be held in the Faculty Dining Room, Hunter College, West Building, 8th floor. To RSVP, email spevents@hunter.cuny.edu or call (212) 772-4007. Following both readings, there will be a Q&A and book signing.

Peter Balakian is the author of six books of poems, including, most recently, Ziggurat, which was praised by Carolyn Forché as a “brilliant assimilation of the historical, philosophical, political, and psychological.” He is also the author of the highly praised June-tree: New and Selected Poems 1974-2000. Balakian’s memoir Black Dog of Fate (1997) was winner of the PEN/Albrand Prize for memoir and was a New York Times Notable Book. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1999 and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in 2004.

Balakian is the Donald M. and Constance H. Rebar Professor of the Humanities and director of Creative Writing at Colgate University.
