NEW YORK (A.W.)—On Oct. 1, 2010, Zaruhi Petrosyan, a 20-year-old motherin Armenia, died from physical injuries she sustained. Her husband, Yanis Sarkisov, was arrested in connection with her death and currently faces trial in Armenia (click here for background story).
A petition was launched on Jan. 30 demanding “that a fair investigation and trial be conducted in Armenia and that those judged responsible for her death be punished.”

No one has the right to abuse women!! The reverse is true as well! We should all respect and love one another.
The problem in Armenia is not its “police”, the problem in Armenia is not its “politicians”, the problem in Armenia is not even the “men” there… The problem in Armenia is “Asiatic and Islamic mentalities” masquerading as Armenian “traditions” and cultural practices. A thousand years of cultural, genetic and spiritual damage as a result of Turkic, Semitic, Persian, Islamic and Bolshevik rule will not be fixed in a few short years. Armenian folk traditions/culture desperately needs a thorough overhaul. It sometimes feels as if we Armenians are more Turkish/Islamic than Turks these days. However, I have hope in the new generation…
“Asiatic and Islamic mentalities” masquerading as Armenian traditions and cultural practices may be present in a segment of Armenia’s population, but there are also segments that are less influenced by such mentalities. The problem therefore is not societal per se, because the illegitimate ruling cliques—past or present—their “politicians”, policemen, and semi-literate oligarchs, exhibiting the traits of “Asiatic mentalities,” namely: inherited corruption, nepotism, self-centeredness, narrow-mindedness, mismanagement, etc., do not represent ALL segments of our nation, leaving out the most open-minded, broad-based segment. By the way, ethnic, religious and political influences must be differentiated. Semitic is Arab rule (Jews never ruled Armenia). Islamic is Persian, Arab, and Ottoman Turkish rule. Bolshevik is Russian Soviet rule. Be consistent.
This is a shame for our society to see physical abuse which has taken place in her life and marriage which did end her life. No one should face a brutal life style that some Armenian households are facing we need to correct and make sure domestic violence are not repeated in our communities and households.
What happened to Zarouhi was a terrible crime and met its just verdict by the courts of Armenia. (may be even much longer period). There are many many more “silent victims”who hopefully will come out in open, and in doing so to know, full well, that the entire diaspora is keenly pursuing this “foreign plague.” The Armenian Woman, or any woman, for that matter, is not a property or an object. Diaspora is concerned to make sure there will be no more Zarouhis.
