Washington Post Endorses Jamgochian for Maryland State Assembly

BETHESDA, Md.—Maryland State Assembly candidate Hrant Jamgochian recently received the coveted endorsement of the Washington Post in the tightly contested Democratic primary for the Maryland’s 16th district, reported the Armenian National Committee of Maryland (ANC-MD).

“In a strong field of 11 other candidates, the best is Hrant Jamgochian, an impressively smart, politically savvy health policy expert who could have a real impact,” noted the Post, which released a full set of endorsements for local elections last week.

Jamgochian explained that the endorsement is a “huge boost for my momentum,” since such an “impartial paper has provided great media acknowledgement.” He stressed, however, that the most important endorsement comes from the 16th district voters, who will decide his political fate at the Sept. 14 primary and later at the Nov. 2 general election.

Bringing 15 years of state and federal level public policy experience to the campaign, Jamgochian has focused on education, the environment and the economy, with a special emphasis on healthcare reform. As the director of health policy for United Way Worldwide, Jamgochian works with its nearly 1,300 state and local affiliates to help improve the health of all Americans. He hopes to make sure that “Marylanders take advantage of the healthcare reform, where most of it can be implemented on state level.”

Jamgochian continues active participation in Montgomery County’s vibrant Armenian American community, attending and supporting local Armenian Church activities. “I am excited to see the support of the Armenian community,” stated Jamgochian who was a boy scout in the Homenetmen Armenian Athletic and Scouting Organization growing up. “I hope my candidacy will encourage other Armenian Americans to follow this path.” If elected, Jamgochian would be the first Armenian American to serve in the Maryland General Assembly.

With early voting for the Democratic Primary set to begin on Sept. 3 and primary election day on Sept. 14, Jamgochian is hot on the campaign trail and deeply appreciative of the financial and
volunteer assistance from the Armenian American community in a race with a number of well-financed opponents.

His “Hard to Pronounce, Easy to Support” motto has been embraced by voters in the 16th District, who have been flocking to a series of “meet and greet” events in the district over the past two months.
