The Providence AYF Olympics Steering Committee invites you to the Opening Ceremonies for the 76th Annual Olympic Games of the AYF-YOARF on Sun., Sept. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at Cranston High School West in Cranston, R.I. The program will honor past members of the AYF Central Executive from the 1940’s and 1950’s, and past and present Olympic Governing Body members, and will feature the traditional parade of athletes.

“We have a strong, spirited history of the AYF in Providence, especially the Olympic tradition,” said Harry Kushigian, the Alumni chair of the Opening Ceremonies Committee. “As this year’s hosts, the Opening Ceremonies has special meaning. It will bring together members of the Armenian community of all ages to honor some of our past AYF leaders and those currently at the helm of these Olympic Games. We plan on ‘Taking Tradition to Hyer Ground.’”

The program will also feature Rhode Island leaders including Mayor Scott Avedisian of Warwick (Rhode Island’s second largest city) and Mayor Allan Fung of Cranston. Also invited are Governor Donald Carcieri and Mayor David Cicilline of Providence. Other dignitaries include His Grace Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Vicar General of the Eastern Prelacy, as well as representatives from the Central Committee of the ARF, ARS, Homenetmen, and AYF Central Executive.
