Hai Guin Annual Spring Luncheon to Feature Galaid, Michaels

The Hai Guin Scholarship Association will hold its annual spring luncheon and fundraising event, “Hai Guin Goes Broadway,” on May 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Boston Marriott Burlington, in Burlington, Mass. A departure from its previous years’ celebration and focus on fashion, this year’s luncheon will feature actress and cabaret singer Meryl Galaid, who brings her sassy and upbeat style to the stage.

Whether belting out a Liza tune or putting her heart into a ballad, Meryl Galaid sings “The Best of Broadway and More!” with “A Little Garland and Minelli.” For more than 20 years, her one-woman show has taken her on journeys down the eastern coast, from the Sands Hotel in Atlantic City to countless performances throughout New England.
She has performed with the Reagle Players of Waltham, Mass. in their award-winning production of “Singin’ In The Rain” directed by Broadway’s Kirby Ward, and with the brilliant cast of “The Music Man” starring WBZ-TVs Scott Wahle and Sarah Pfisterer. She also realized a life-long dream recently when she took flight as “Peter,” the boy who refused to grow up in the Pentucket Player’s most successful production of “Peter Pan.” Of her recent portrayal of the evil Miss Hannigan in “Annie,” one local reviewer was prompted to write, “Meryl Galaid can only be described as a true comedienne, combining physical comedy with a strong brassy belt and most importantly, a deep soul!”

The Hai Guin Scholarship Association will also welcome WBZ-TV staff meteorologist Mish Michaels (Atamian), as a special guest announcer for the auction segment of “Hai Guin Goes Broadway.” A favorite in the Boston area, Mish’s work includes forecasting, storm coverage, and producing climate/environmental stories. Prior to joining WBZ in 2001, she had her own show on the Weather Channel called “Atmospheres.”
