Well-known figures, including politicians and cultural figures, were present at Sargsyan’s funeral. Opposition leader and former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian was among the politicians who attended to pay respects to Sargsyan.

During the funeral, actress Tamara Hovhannisyan announced that Sargsyan is being buried in a way so that his body may be transferred to Yerablur in the future if authorities decide to do so, according to News.am.

Activist Sargsyan died last week while being prosecuted on charges of aiding opposition gunmen last summer when he drove through the police and brought food to members of Sasna Tsrer.

His death has led to a series of protests in Yerevan in the last week that was supported by hundreds of opposition supporters. Demonstrators said that he should not have been kept in custody because of his illnesses.

Armenia’s Investigative Committee is currently conducting an investigation into Sargsyan’s death under a Criminal Code that deals with homicides resulting from the lack of proper medical treatment.
