I’m afraid for our people in the region – these types of overt and covert hatred are already spreading throughout Turkish-speaking regions and will result in horrific consequences if we don’t diligently respond to them.
Moving forward, it would be great to remind those who call us “ancient people” to refer to us as “people with ancient historical roots”. I have no doubt that the writers didn’t mean to offend Armenians; in fact, we often have called ourselves “ancient peoples”. The phrase reminds me of the term dinosaurs – which we’re not. We are as current as today’s and tomorrow’s world – we have the advantage of history to ldirect our advance towards the future.
