Once again this year’s festival will focus strongly on humanitarian issues internationally, such as genocide, holocaust, human freedom, women’s rights, and human trafficking. Arpa is proud to have selected a diverse and choice program featuring the works of seasoned and up-and-coming filmmakers from many countries.

“We are thrilled about this year’s festival lineup, which includes works of award-winning filmmakers,” said the festival director, Michael Ashjian. “It’s our goal to stay true to our mission in cultivating awareness of important topics that affect our society through the medium of film.” Each night, the festival will feature premiers with red carpet and after parties. A detailed featured program will be announced in the coming weeks, but festival enthusiasts can look forward to enjoy screenings such as Bared Maronian’s “Women of 1915,” Jivan Avetissian’s “The Last Inhabitant,” Vigen Chaldranian’s “Alter Ego,” Vahig Pirhamzei’s “3 Days in Yerevan,” a musical animation film based on Hovaness Tumanyan’s Anban Huri fairy tale by Artur Mikayelyan, “Hot Country, Cold Winter’ by David Safarian, and many more.

The festival’s prestigious Armin T. Wegner Humanitarian award marks number 15 this year, and will be presented to Maronian’s “Women of 1915.”

“Women of 1915” is the first documentary ever to unveil the role of the Armenian women of the era who lived through the horrors of the genocide. The documentary highlights the integral role Armenian women played in their respective communities and the heroic, humanitarian women advocates who came to their aid from around the world. It also shines light on those who died at the hands of the war-ravaged Ottoman Empire to empower Armenian women as pillars of war-torn, post-genocide societies.

Four-time regional Emmy award-winning filmmaker Maronian’s documentary film follows his highly acclaimed documentary, “Orphans of the Genocide.” This documentary was selected by the Hong Kong World International Film Festival, and was distributed by the National Educational Telecommunications Association to over 250 TV stations across the United States.

All four nights of the festival will include a Red Carpet, entertainment, and a reception which will be included in the festival’s All Access Gold Pass.
