WATERVLIET, N.Y.—The devoted members of the Women’s Guild of St. Peter Armenian Church of Watervliet are working tirelessly to prepare the gourmet flavors guests can enjoy during the Annual Holiday Bazaar set to take place on Dec. 5-6 in the Gdanian Auditorium, St. Peter Armenian Church, 100 Troy-Schenectady Rd. in Watervliet. The event is open to the public; admittance and parking are free of charge.
This two-day event features a variety of delicious Armenian foods, to enjoy on site or to take home and stock your freezer; a pet food drive to support local animal rescue shelters (donations may be dropped off during the bazaar); musical entertainment and caroling; a caricaturist; vendors for your holiday shopping pleasures; and a raffle to be drawn on Dec. 6 with three lucky winners (who need not be present at time of drawing).

Of course, this Holiday Bazaar wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Santa Claus! Jolly St. Nick will make an appearance to delight children of all ages. Photos with Santa make great gifts.
Some of the ethnic foods available for purchase in the Hye Kitchen and Bake Shop include madzoonov kufteh (a yogurt based soup with meatballs), lahmajun (Armenian meat pizza), michov kufteh (Armenian stuffed meatballs), choreg (Armenian sweet bread), Armenian string cheese, paklava (nut-filled filo dough pastry), cheese boereg (cheese-filled filo dough triangles), and simit (sesame-topped cookies). All foods are sold and served a la carte so that guests can sample and enjoy the many flavors to be had.
The mission of the Women’s Guild is to nurture the souls and minds of women of the Armenian Church by linking generations together through faith, service, and cultural heritage to strengthen the Armenian Church and community and the greater community in which the Guild serves. Long known as the backbone of St. Peter Armenian Church and also widely praised throughout the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America as amazing cooks, the Holiday Food Bazaar showcases the many talents of this dedicated group of women.
Sponsorship opportunities are available at various levels. If interested or for more information, contact the church office by calling (518) 274-3673.
