Tsoleen Sarian Joins Project SAVE Archives

WATERTOWN, Mass.—Unity is the sentiment in the Armenian community during this year of the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide. Although the official slogan is to “Remember and Demand,” there is also a celebration of life and shared culture, language, food, and customs wherever Armenians are settled around the world.

Tsoleen Sarian shares this sense of unity while looking beyond the Centenary. She brings that enthusiasm and vision to Project SAVE Armenian Photograph Archives in her new role as associate director.

“We’re enthusiastic about Tsoleen Sarian joining Project SAVE Archives,” said Ruth Thomasian, founder and CEO of the photo archives organization based at 65 Main St., Watertown. “Tsoleen brings a wealth of knowledge and community experience that can only make us stronger.”

In her capacity as associate director, Tsoleen is working closely with Ruth on administration, public relations, and development as well as archival processes and procedures. She plays a key role in Project SAVE’s 40th anniversary celebration to be held Nov. 21, 2015 at the Scottish Rite Museum and Library (formerly known as the National Heritage Museum in Lexington), serving with a committee formed to make this a marquee celebration event.

“Our 40th anniversary is a moment we can all embrace,” said Ruth. “And Tsoleen is a vital part of this milestone.”

Tsoleen joined Peter Koutoujian’s State Representative campaign staff in 2002, and through his years as sheriff worked behind the scenes promoting Koutoujian’s place of allegiance inside the Armenian community.

Her previous work in the non-profit sector has included Armenia Tree Project and the Global Partnership for Afghanistan, as well as a period with the Conflict Management Group. She serves in a leadership role at the Armenian Memorial Church, and on the Board of Directors of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) Eastern Region.

From 2002-13, Tsoleen participated on the Massachusetts State House Armenian Genocide Commemoration Steering Committee, serving as its chair during her last three years.

A graduate of Merrimack College with a major in French and history, Sarian has also participated in the Armenian Assembly of America’s summer internship program.

“I’m very excited about my new role with Project SAVE Archives,” she said. “It’s been a vital component of our community for the past four decades. Project SAVE is a unique way for all Armenians to contribute to the fabric of our heritage from anywhere in the world, and to preserve and share our family photographs and stories. With my enthusiasm for photography and history, blended with a desire to keep the light of our Armenian heritage, makes this the ideal opportunity for me. I feel fortunate to work where my values and experiences complement each other. I’m invigorated as I look forward to working with Project SAVE during its ‘40 Years and Beyond.’ Be sure to save the date for our celebration on Sat., Nov. 21.”
