European Armenian Federation Condemns Suruc Terrorist Attack

Sarkisian Sends Condolence Letter to Erdogan

European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) President Kaspar Karampetian condemned the July 20 terrorist attack in the Kurdish-populated town of Suruc, Turkey, offering his condolences to the families of those killed and wishing a rapid recovery to the hundreds injured.

“This terrorist act is all the more monstrous considering that the youth was gathered in Suruc to go and volunteer in Kobane, and assist the reconstruction of the city after the destruction by Daesh (ISIS). Our thoughts go to the families of those killed and the hundreds injured,” said Karampetian.

Karampetian stressed that the attack is clearly the result of the Turkish authorities’ open support of ISIS. “Sooner or later, Erdogan’s policy of supporting the terrorists in Syria would turn against him; unfortunately, this is the case now, with the loss of innocent young lives,” said Karampetian.

“The European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy with all its organizations joins the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), the Party of European Socialists (PES), and the whole democratic world in condemning this terrorist act. It’s the moral obligation of democratic forces to support the Kurds in their fight for democracy and justice,” he added.

On July 20, a bomb attack targeted a gathering of around 300 members of the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) in Suruc. The activists were meeting to discuss the reconstruction of Kobane, Syria. Participants were planning to cross over to Kobane to rebuild the town. Around 30 people have been reported killed, and around 100 others injured.

Sarkisian’s Condolence Letter

In a letter addressed to Erdogan, Armenia’s President Serge Sarkisian expressed his condolences and condemned the violence. “It was with deep sorrow that I learned of the explosion in the town of Suruc in Turkey’s Sanliurfa province that killed a few dozen people. We strongly condemn all manifestation of terrorism,” read the letter.

“Please, accept my condolences on the incident. I wish steadfastness and strength of spirit to the victims’ relatives and a speedy recovery to the injured,” it concluded.

  1. Unfortunately for Erdoğan, Demirtaş and HDP are too smart and are influential enough to not allow Kurds to take the bait and respond to these provocations. Nothing more than a dictator lashing out because he knows he will not get his way.

    • RVDV, what are you saying ?

Erdogan and/or AKP had a specific hand in this (…even though removed far enough from the bombers through cutouts) ?
Or the usual blowback from supporting and encouraging psychopath radical terrorists, irrationally expecting they will not someday turn on you.

    • Avery:

Guess my original comment didn’t go through so… Basically there are many sources (including HDP MPs) that are saying that there’s no way the ISIS terrorist(s) could have come into Turkey without the government’s knowledge. Essentially, they’re suggesting the government sanctioned this attack. Considering the incidents in recent times (Reyhanli, HDP meeting bombing this May, etc.) , this doesn’t seem like crazy conspiracy theory.

If you’re wondering why they’d do this, it could have to do with the fact that a new government still hasn’t been formed after the June election. A few more weeks and we’re headed towards an early election. If all hell breaks loose in the east and chaos spreads in Turkey, Erdogan can use this as a political tool to try and convince voters that they need a sole-AKP government in charge. HDP didn’t take the bait in May when their party rally was bombed and they haven’t taken it now. For all the anger building up in the southeast, Demirtas and HDP have the respect of the Kurds and influence over them. Even if it goes to an early election, Erdogan’s plan will fail, he won’t get his majority, and he won’t be able to change the constitution to make himself a kind of president for life. Of course, a power drunk leader not getting what he wants and meeting his match (in Demirtas) makes him very dangerous so I suspect we may see escalating violence.

  2. I hope and pray that the US and Israel WAKE UP to the FACT ;
ISIS and the actual ottoman rulers ARE THE SAME in blood and thinking
REST IN PEACE OUR GENOCIDE SAINTS

  3. This “terrorist attack” has “Erdogan Regime backed by NATO” written all over it. It does not take much to figure out, it is simple math. This false flag operation is designed to kill two birds with one stone. We already know that in the previous years Turkey was caught trying to establish a pretense to attack Syria, and that plan was foiled. This “ISIS attack” is just the follow-up to that plan.

Very obviously, Turkey’s plan is not to eliminate AlQaeda/ISIL targets but to prevent Kurdistan from materializing and to destabilize Syria further by creating a “no-fly zone”, something which is already being discussed by NATO and Turkey. The mainstream liars like CNN and Faux News are claiming “Turkey is now targeting the IS after a terrorist attack” – BS. Turkey could do a lot of things if it was after ISIL, including preventing it from even existing in the first place. Those worthless IS terrorist are a dime a dozen and disposable for Turkey, they have no real power without Turkish aid. Thus superficial attacks on IS positions are meaningless and meant to hide Turkey’s real intent. Notice how this attack was on Kurds, not Turks… very predictable and convenient.

So Turkey’s real intent is to harm the Kurds. It is only a matter of time before news articles come out saying “Turkey mistakenly bombs Kurdish camp while targeting ISIL” etc. It’s always the same M.O., similar to when the Kurds were fighting against the IS terrorists in Kobane, NATO/USA “mistakenly” dropped weapons to the terrorists instead of the Kurds. Nothing has changed since the Armenian Genocide, when the very same allies “mistakenly” dropped crates of weapons to the genocidal Turks instead of the Armenians who were trying to defend themselves, right after betraying them by pulling out and leaving the devastated Armenians to fend for themselves, without any meaningful defense.

With the follow up to these attacks, I was also disappointed by Armenian president Sargsyan’s “condolence letter” to Erdogan. Why send a condolence letter to the perpetrator of the crime and not the victims? (Some might argue, Sargsyan knows the Erdogan Regime is the perpetrator which is why he sent the message on purpose but to me that is not of much value). Sargsyan should have acted more subtle by sending condolences to the Kurdish community and leadership instead and ignoring the Turkish government altogether which would be another way of telling them they are irrelevant in the fight against terrorism.

    • Good analysis Hagop.

Regarding the condolence message to Erdogan: Pres Sargsian (his office) routinely sends condolences to heads of state where some tragedy has occurred. I guess part of diplomatic protocol.
But I agree with you that he should have sent an additional condolence message addressed directly to Kurds.

    • Avery,
Yes agreed, on second thought it seems to be just protocol. And that is a better idea to send condolences to both.

    • Also, in carrying out these attacks on Kurds, Erdogan is also hoping make AKP seem more attractive to the MHP voter base. I think he’s prepared for early elections, and many of the votes AKP lost went to MHP.

    • RVDV:

I know Erdogan is a sick psychopath, and also know Governments (States) are capable of unimaginably vile acts to maintain themselves in power.
But this bombing really left an impression on me.
It was the juxtaposition of the young Kurds, happy, full of life, sitting at a table one moment, and then unrecognizable body parts …..covered with newspaper. Really, really vile.

The other one that made such an impression on me some years ago was the little Afghan girl standing outside the Shia mosque, screaming in terror, surrounded by dead bodies and body parts, after the terrorist bombing.

My heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims in Suruc.
      God bless.

  4. It’s rather sickening how that Serzh is going out of his way for the Turkish Sultan (who happens to wish for the destruction of Armenia) by sending him a condolence letter, in which he says, “Please, accept my condolences on the incident.” Well, I must say that Sultan Erdogan is indeed a lucky man to have a faithful friend like Serzh, who’s there to show him affection during his difficult moments.

    • Yerevanian:

You are losing your composure: you are just throwing out vacuous hate-sentences directed at President Sargsian, which are devoid of any meaning or rational foundation.
It might be the oppressively hot and humid weather we’ve been having in SoCal lately.
And with the ongoing severe drought in California, the heat is getting to people. It is quite understandable.

Nevertheless, maybe you should take the unsolicited advice which you dispensed to Anahid Keusseyan in another thread yourself.
Let me reproduce it here, in case you forgot:

{“ It’s the oppressively hot and humid weather that’s making you feel this way. What you need to do is turn on your air conditioner full blast, while you sit down and drink a glass of refreshing lemonade. And then, you’ll see how much better you’ll begin to feel.”} (Yerevanian, “Paylan to File Complaint…” thread)

      How about it ?
Dink a glass of ice cold refreshing lemonade, and then re-post ?
      What say you.

    • Avery,

So, you actually think it’s not sickening that Sargsyan shows such warmth and kindness to Sultan Erdogan, who happens to despise everything about the Armenian people and wishes for the complete destruction of Armenia? Could it possibly be that you also feel the same way about Sultan Erdogan as Sargsyan does?

    • {“So, you actually think it’s not sickening that Sargsyan shows such warmth and kindness to Sultan Erdogan..”}

      {“Could it possibly be that you also feel the same way about Sultan Erdogan as Sargsyan does?”}

      Yerevanian:

You are losing your composure: you are just throwing out vacuous hate-sentences directed at President Sargsian, which are devoid of any meaning or rational foundation.

    • Avery,

You failed to answer my two questions. Anyway, take some time to regain your composure and then you’ll return back to me to continue our discussion.

  5. Yerevanian,

What a shame you call yourself Yerevanian. Do you know the history, geography, seismology and geodesic analysis of the location of Armenia? I doubt very much. your deep frustrations have taken over your reasoning. Please, before you put down sham ideas and thoughts, why don’t you be kind to yourself, cherish your soul and reason with yourself. How I wish to know you to give you a smack to your bum, to bring you out of your frustrations.

    • Anahid Keusseyan,

“How I wish to know you.”

Are you serious about this? And exactly what is it about me that attracts you? Do you happen to live in Los Angeles or New York City? Because if you do, I can arrange for the two of us to meet, and then you’ll get an opportunity to know me real well. Furthermore, that would also give me the opportunity to teach you about the geography, history, and culture of Armenia.

And what exactly is shameful about my last name? Numerous young ladies have actually told me that I have a very pretty last name. Anyway, after you get to know me better, you’ll hopefully develop a stronger liking for my last name.
