Sarkisian Approves ‘Concept Paper on Constitutional Amendments’

YEREVAN (A.W.)—On March 14, President Serge Sarkisian gave his approval to the Concept Paper on Constitutional Amendments tendered by the Specialized Commission for Constitutional Amendments. The proposal calls for a transition to a parliamentary system of government in Armenia.

According to a statement released by the President’s Office, the Specialized Commission for Constitutional Amendments, together with political parties, will examine the approaches in the Concept Paper Amendments and finalize the proposals and remarks presented by the parties.

The constitutional reforms will be voted on in a nationwide referendum. The date has not yet been set for the referendum.

Representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) on March 12 met with Sarkisian to discuss their proposals on constitutional reforms. The president also met with representatives of the United Labor Party, the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), the Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party, the Free Democrats Party, and the Armenian National Movement Party regarding the reform process.
