NEW YORK, N.Y.—The Armenian Students’ Association (ASA) of America has become an official charity partner of the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon. The announcement was made on March 10 by the president of the New York chapter of ASA, Rafi Hovsepian. The race will take place on Nov. 1.

“ASA is thrilled to partner with the TCS New York City Marathon as an official charity partner,” said Hovsepian. “The TCS New York City Marathon provides a powerful platform for our passionate charity runners to fundraise and raise awareness for causes that are close to their hearts. We are looking forward to supporting our runners throughout their memorable journeys as they train for, and ultimately achieve their goal of completing, this race, all while raising critical funds to benefit our arts and education programs.”

Nearly 300 official charity partners are expected to participate in the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon this year.

ASA is one of the oldest Armenian-American community organizations, established in 1910, and its “Team Armenia” will run to proudly display the resilience of the Armenian people in their triumph over tragedy through education, arts, and the pursuit of excellence.

“We warmly welcome Armenian Students’ Association of America as an official charity partner for the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon,” said Mary Wittenberg, president and CEO of New York Road Runners (NYRR). “All of our participants are inspired to run for reasons significant and special to them, and we are especially appreciative of those who make a meaningful commitment to run on behalf of one of our official charity partners. We wish the best to all of these runners as they begin to plan and prepare for an experience of a lifetime at the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon.”

The marathon will feature a talented American and international professional athlete field, charity runners, and thousands of runners of all ages and abilities. More than 10,000 volunteers help to support participants across the 26.2-mile race route, which touches each of New York City’s 5 boroughs, and is lined with more than 1 million neighbors and guests. Last year, NYRR celebrated each of the 50,530 runners who crossed the finish line and made the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon the largest in the world, including the one-millionth finisher ever in the history of the event. Participants hailed from more than 130 countries and each of the 50 states.

The 2015 TCS New York City Marathon will air live locally on ABC7 (New York) and nationally on ESPN2.

  1. Armenian runners in the NY Marathon should all wear an insignia commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
They should also meet before the race and have a photo taken, to appear in the media.

  2. The New York City Marathon has actually been one of those events that I’ve enjoyed watching over the years. I still vividly remember the very first NYC Marathon I saw at the age of five, while standing with a large group of spectators in Manhattan’s Central Park. It was a very chilly day too. Anyway, I hope to be there to watch the 2015 NYC Marathon. I also hope that the Armenian runners participating in the marathon will all wear T-shirts commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
