ARF Issues Statement on Telethon, Artsakh

The Bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation issued a statement on Nov. 19, urging Armenians to participate in the Nov. 27 Hayastan All-Armenian Fund Telethon, which will support the construction of the Vardenis-Martakert Highway between Armenia and Artsakh. Below is the statement in full.

On Nov. 27, 2014, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund will host its annual televised fundraising campaign which will continue supporting the Vardenis-Martakert Highway construction project.

Azerbaijan’s overtly hostile activities aiming at a resumption of war, especially in recent months, prove once again the importance and urgency of the Telethon for the security and development of Artsakh.

The construction of this highway—significant strategically and in providing an alternative route—will further guarantee the security of the borders of the liberated homeland. [The Highway] will once again prove to our opponents and friends the unwavering determination and united will of the Armenian people in justly resolving the liberation struggle of Artsakh.

The Republic of Mountainous Karabagh—liberated by the blood of our sons and daughters—will prosper through the realization of such projects.

Thus, the ARF Bureau calls on all Armenians to generously contribute to this pan-Armenian fundraising effort and to volunteer their time for the success of the Telethon.

Only through our collective strength and effort will the struggle for Artsakh culminate in victory.

  1. *** Yes., absolutely.!!! I will and I would encourage all of my non Armenian friends to make a pledge., and help make this years telethon contribution the largest ever. ” LONG LIVE STRONG & FREE ARMENIA/ARTSAKH ” the land of beautiful people and culture.

  2. The question is what percent do the Oligarchs siphon off of the funds? After giving generously (over $5000) in the first few years, I stopped giving years ago after I read about the palace that was built for the Armenian female head of the fund.I won’t support a criminal mafia oligarchy. If you can get me the name of an arms trader I might contribute directly.

    • It’s hard to believe that you have given generously (over $5,000).
      And stopped giving years ago after you read – read ? – about the palace that was allegedly built for the female head of the fund ?

      How about you read the list of people on the these boards:

      So all those prominent people, from different political parties, from different religious houses, different countries, unconnected to each other, didn’t know about the alleged palace and didn’t raise a stink about it, and you are only one who read about it ?

      ….and none of these top donors heard about the alleged palace ?

      {“ If you can get me the name of an arms trader I might contribute directly.”}

      Are you for real ?

  3. Call me crazy, but its it worth investing tens of millions of dollars (the amount which I presume will be collected, based on previous years’ data) in a project, which can be destroyed with a single flight of the Azeris’ bombers? Isn’t this money better spent at defense, arming and training, especially in the light of the recent hawkishness displayed across the border?

    • {“ Call me crazy,…”}

      OK, since requested it, consider it said.
      So a flight of Azeri bombers would just fly into NKR or RoA airspace and bomb a road at their leisure ?
      And, quote, ‘destroy’ it with a single flight ?
      You have any idea what a near-impassible task it is to ‘destroy’ a road built on hard, rocky ground with aerial bombs ?
      A road that is deep in mountains and surrounded by hilly terrain on all sides ?
      Even with continuous bombing runs ?
      The US had absolute air supremacy in Viet Nam.
      US Air force bombed the so-called Ho Chi Minh ‘trail’ – actually roads, bridges etc – at will.
      Vietnamese quickly repaired the damage and the flow of materiel continued.

      {“ Isn’t this money better spent at defense, arming and training,”}

      You actually think a US Tax exempt Fund can get involved in “arming and training” ?
      Where do you guys come up with this stuff.

  4. These arguments are all very healthy and well intended, I am sure.
    Hopefully, people in charge will take notice and devise a system where most of the income goes to support the projects in our homeland. We need an open, transparent snd reliable system which all Armenians can trust and believe in, inorder to give as generously as they can. Our homeland needs it and depends on it for success. Meanwhile, whatever proportion goes towards the project, I believe it needs to receive our full support.
