Attack on Aleppo’s Nor Kiugh Intensifies

ALEPPO, Syria (Asbarez)–Bombing of the predominantly Armenian neighborhood of Nor Kiugh intensified on Oct. 4, with local residents reporting that new types of explosives were being used that cause widespread destruction, with flames spreading through several buildings.

Jirair Reyisian the spokesperson of the Armenian Prelacy in Aleppo told Asbarez during a phone interview that the type of rockets and weapons used were never before seen, suspecting that the extremists were using homemade explosives whose range and fire power were more severe than others experienced by residents.

Reyisian said that after hitting a target, the explosives then spread to other nearby buildings, with fire officials having a hard time containing the fires raging from the attacks.

The bombings during the past couple of weeks have left residents with no electricity and running water, forcing them to flee to shelters set up at community centers.

The latest round of bombings is significant, according to Reyisian, because of the type of bombs and artillery being used. Some in the area are suspecting that the new artillery might be chemical in nature, but there has been no official confirmation.

Militants with direct links to al Qaeda extremists, with the backing of Turkey, have been targeting Nor Kiugh intermittently since June, 2014, with these latest attacks being the worst yet.

  1. Turkey has been busy for the past several years destroying the Armenian community in Syria. For Armenians who survived the Genocide, Aleppo and Kessab have been two success stories which Turkey has had its eye on and now they can give each other high fives.

Last year there was a German program that actually predicted very well Turkey’s connection to jihadists, today going by ISIS/ISIL. At the time the ISIS/ISIL name was not widely known yet, but this account asks the right questions. And I believe that when Turkey demanded NATO patriot missiles be armed at the border, it was not valid legally, because Turkey was fueling the conflict in Syria itself, and Syria did not initiate aggression against Turkey. But as usual Turkey gets away with everything, including the destruction of Syria and unfortunately for us, our Armenian community. Nato are all in on it together, a blatant and illegal invasion of a sovereign nation. And the fact that Syria has no recourse, means real justice in the world does not exist. Justice is only determined by a few world military powers.

  2. the Middle East scene is changing for the worst , Armenians should move out preferably to rebuild Armenia and secure their children’s future.

    • How do you suggest they do that? Get in ther BMWs and just drive North? Perhaps make a quick stop at an ATM to get some cash? Come on! Use some common sense. They’re stuck there!

  3. Bombings by Planes or Shelling? By Turkish backed Rebel factions? Typical cowardly, disgusting tactics by the Turkish Government. BTW, VP Biden spoke the truth but then had to apologize for it least offending the so-called US Allies–Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc.

  4. Armenians, please get out of Syria in any shape or form you can… I lived in Beirut for many years under fire, many many years ago,and things are still not calm there after all these years. Please do not risk your life in Syria, thinking that soon things may get better and life gets back to normal. I pray to God (mer Asdoudzo) to keep all of you safe and give you all patience and perseverance to get through this very difficult times.

  5. if it is true that Turkish backed rebel factions are behind the boming, shelling and destruction of christian property and lives in Syria then at least all people of turkish origin ought to be forcibly evicted from Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Belgium and all the other countries of Europe. Similarly if Muslims in other places are the driving force behind the persecution and killing of Christians in the Middle East as a whole, then Europeans in turn should consider banning and evicting Muslims from Europe, including any europeans who have converted to Islam.
