Sarkisian Awards Medal to Jack Medzorian

YEREVAN, Armenia—At a ceremony in Armenia’s White House on May 26, President Serge Sarkisian awarded the coveted Movses Khorenatsi Medal to Jack Medzorian of Winchester, Mass. This medal is bestowed on individuals who have demonstrated a long-standing and sustained commitment to the development of Armenia in its cultural, educational, and humanitarian spheres. Medzorian was the only U.S. citizen among the recipients awarded the medal at the ceremony.

Since their first visit to Armenia 40 years ago, Jack Medzorian and his wife, Eva, have returned to Armenia over 50 times, following up on humanitarian, educational, medical, and cultural projects, implemented privately and through the Cambridge Yerevan Sister City Association and the Knights and Daughters of Vartan.

Highlights of his accomplishments include the co-founding of the Armenia school aid program, now the flagship Armenia aid project of the Knights and Daughters of Vartan, which has assisted in the renovation and building of over 200 schools in Armenia; 10 youth exchanges/school partnerships; 19 3-week professional development training programs in the U.S. for Armenia’s professionals from a wide range of specialties; numerous follow-on programs in Armenia with alumni to implement new ideas learned from their U.S. training programs; shipment of 40-foot containers of medical aid to needy hospitals in Armenia, especially in remote villages; and numerous other humanitarian and educational aid projects.

Jack and Eva (Ahigian) Medzorian have been married for 57 years and reside in Winchester. They have raised four children and are blessed with five grandchildren.

    Been a while since we met st B-A on University Rd. When so Did my thesis on Atomic Instrments, Hugh Stoddart hired me and Lee Foster took me on when Hugh departed – I now live at Teh Commons in Lincoln and dine occasionally with a lively, elderly Armenian.
